His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah highlights that rising global uncertainties and rapid technological change demand renewed cooperation to keep the region connected, resilient, and future-ready. His Majesty stresses that APEC must continue to promote an open, fair, and rules-based multilateral trading system, with WTO at its core. His Majesty made the titah while attending the APEC Economic Leaders' Informal Dialogue with Guests (Session 1) held at the Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO), Gyeongju, Republic of Korea. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

 

Upon arrival, His Majesty was welcomed by His Excellency Lee Jae-myung, President of the Republic of Korea, as the AELM Chair. Also present were Leaders from Canada, Thailand, Japan, and His Highness the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates. The session began with welcoming remarks by the President of the Republic of Korea.

 

During the session, His Majesty in the titah says strong public–private collaboration is necessary to address challenges, with digital transformation, and enhancing future-ready skills key to empowering businesses and strengthening regional integration, and drive inclusive and sustainable growth. His Majesty stresses that the realisation of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) is central to these efforts.
